BE PART OF THE CREATION OF RELISH

Transformation through community.

From the conception of the idea of Relish we have been clear that this is a collaborative effort. The three primary facilitators have a vision that Relish will evolve according to the needs and dreams of those who turn up to make it happen. Personal involvement is encouraged and needed to make this paradigm work. That the Relish participants sign up to join a club rather than purchase a ticket is an important difference. In joining the club, members become part of a group with a common creative and social goal. That is, to join together in a beautiful place and host a community that embraces guests from all walks of life; with their shared vision of what a community can look like. We are dedicated to fostering a caring and inclusive environment where all participants are welcomed as family members with openness, friendliness and acceptance.

Generosity is key

In giving to each other as we create the festival environment and by caring and providing during the event itself we get to experience life differently. The membership fee is used to cover the costs of creating the event, including the care of the land. All labour is given, unpaid and contributed willingly. Only give and bring what you can offer freely – it is important that you give what you can without expectation of receiving anything in return or that others have given equally. Smiles and hugs are a valid currency at Relish!

GIFT your skills

All phases of Relish require the skills of the club members to be involved or the event wouldn’t be financially sustainable – together we make the gathering happen. The planning phase will commence in September 2024, from which point we will hold meetings for interested Relishers once or twice a month until just before the event begins. Come and join us! You can find out about the next meeting by following the Relish Facebook page; or by signing up to our Newsletter.

Working Bees

The creation of Relish is ongoing and ever-evolving. Working bees see lists of skilled and unskilled tasks ticked off, and together we care for Korimako and enable an astoundingly beautiful and highly functional village to come to life in March. By contributing your time and love you become enmeshed in the festival family. We have lots of resources, and we welcome you to add to them if you wish. Working bees take place roughly once a month from October, and sporadically throughout the winter; we would love for you to come and camp and help the creation of Relish to unfold.

During the gathering we continue to shape the event as we play. There are many opportunities for you to make a difference to the experiences of yourself and those around you, and you are invited to find a place that fits who you are and what you wish to offer.

After the Event is over we decamp together over the following two weeks - all and any help is greatly appreciated. The more hands, the lighter the work load.

Working Bee Dates:

  • October 18-20

  • December 6-8

  • January 10-12

  • February 14-16

Below is a list of the areas we need help with:

  • Preparing the land - working bees before March

  • Pre-Event - From 2 weeks out we start creating the village, and need as many hands as possible, skilled and unskilled, everyday. We will be onsite and can direct you into areas that need help. This includes: trench digging, marquee erection, toilet assembly, stage and grandstand assembly, kitchen assembly, carpet laying, moving the many items that make Relish so lush, decoration, and many other little jobs. Many hands make light work.

  • Gate - welcome people onto the land with a touch of silliness, and mark them on the membership register

  • Parking and Camping - helping guide the groovers to where they can park and camp. This is an enjoyable job that helps set the vibe of the event

  • Kitchen - be part of the kitchen team and help the heart of the festival run smoothly. The role is mostly of guidance, as everyone helps keep the kitchen in order

  • The Hub - help manage the Information Station, the centre of communication for the event and a great place to meet many people

  • Post Event - when the playing ends the tidying begins, and we need all the help we can get to pack down what we created. Join us for an hour or a day, any help is much appreciated.

  • And however you would like to contribute: a gift, skill or artwork - all of it is very welcome

Email us at admin@relishfestival.co.nz if you would like to communicate how you can help or have any special things you would like to bring. We would love to hear from you.
